Validate a card for Aurora(page1.htm)
Receiving Aurora channels on an ABD decoder

Depending on the particular decoder, Aurora channels may sometimes be viewed using an ADB box, if you have a valid smartcard. To see if you decoder can access Aurora you will first have to check if the tuner is locked or not. If it is not locked you will be able to change the frequency to access the Aurora signals.

If you can tune to Aurora you will need to purchase an Aurora smartcard (Most satellite dealers can supply these cards0 OPTUS Belrose at 1300 301 681 will activate a new smartcard over the phone for all ABC, SBS (TV and Radio - all zones), TAFE TV, several independent radio channels and the BBC World radio service, plus some other services. However, you may have a problem convincing the Commercial FTA's to authorise a smartcard.

CBAA (Community Broadcasting Assoc of Aust) (02) 9310 2999 have a feed to Community radio stations (ex-ComRadSat) - permission for activation go HERE You may be able to convince them if you can't receive Community Radio. Contact at CBAA is J Beatson (as at December 2000).

The commercial FTA's will only validate REMOTE customers without ABA authorisation. You need to live at a remote address to gain access to FTA commercial channels as a residential address and postcode are required.

Just having being access to some Aurora channels (ABC, SBS, etc) does not entitle you to the FTA commercial satellite channels if you can receive terrestrial FTA commercial channels. In "BLACK SPOTS" where local signals are not available you have to request the ABA for approval. The current waiting list is 4 weeks.

Approval from ABA for FTA in local zone requires an "Antenna Installers Report" to be completed. Can be found HERE
