First of all, the Sony DVP-NS**** can be made multi-region simply by applying appropriate service codes, you do not need to install a so called "mod chip". - BUT - A SPECIAL REMOTE IS REQUIRED
The following guide describes how to make most Sony DVP ***** and some other Sony DVD players multi-region.
There are no guarantees that you will be able to do the same. Be aware that you will probably void any warranty you have and possibly even break the player.
Put shortly, you proceed at your own risk.
NOTE: If your player is a combination player, player recorder, etc and has more than one mode(PAGE 4 contains information on making a range of brands and models region free with a D.I.Y CD disk - this includes 5 Sony models - Sony AVD-LS10 / Sony DAV-D150 / SONY DAV-DX150.- Sony DAV-SB200 / Sony DAV-SB100 )

You need a PDA running the Palm OS. (some users suggest using a IBM WorkPad (a.k.a Palm III)). You need the OmniRemote application from Pacific Neo-Tek http://www.pacificneotek.com. Then you need the OmniRemote style file from here http://www.auspaytv.com/sony/Sony_DVD_hack.zip. Put your DVD-player to standby mode (main power on and red light). Push programmed buttons sequentially from one to five (the player starts up). Do it again: Push programmed buttons sequentially from one to five (the player goes back to standby). The player should now be multiregion. You may have to do it a few times, and you might have to push the buttons twice for the sequence 11,22,33,44,55 for it to work.
